Compendium of Curiosities Challenge 18: Dabber Resist

CCC 18

My entry for the Studio L3 Compendium of Curiosities Challenge is created on cardstock from Club Scrap (yellow from Birds of a Feather, purple from Blossom, and orange from Rhapsody).

Bling and Inkadinkado stamps (All Hallows Eve) are from my stash. Tim’s Dabber Resist technique was done with the spider web using Purple Twilight. I also did some with Snowcap but the technique did not pop enough for my taste so I went with purple (of course, my favorite color.

This card will also serve as my submission on Midnight Madness Sketch Challenge for this week.

Thanks for looking.

Gatsby Gala

Thursday 092

Nancy and Chrissie posing in their Gatsby attire for the Gala Evening on Thursday night. I did not dress for this affair. Relegating myself to Staff Photographer, as always.

Thursday 100

And then Chrissie posing with Michael Strong and Tricia Morris, two of our excellent instructors.

Chocolate Party

Chrissie posing with Diane and Connie in the Chocolate Suite. Then we ran into Julie outside the Chocolate Suite. It was all about chocolate that first night…..

Little Chute

Thursday 016

Chrissie posing on a cow outside our yummy lunch location in Little Chute. It seems to be a retreat tradition to pose on this poor little cow. How many gals have sat upon her? We had a delicious grilled cheese sandwich at their outdoor picnic tables. It was a beautiful fall day.

Posting our Sign

I’m busy this evening uploading photos from our wonderful trip to Wisconsin. Just want to continue to post some of my favorites as I come across them in the edit/upload process.

FirstNight 7

Love this photo of Chrissie posting our Room Sign on our first night in Wisconsin for all the world to see. A photo of thirteen year old Jenni holding her infant sister at her Baptism.

Letterbox No. 10

Out bright and early, leaving Sturgeon Bay and heading back to Neenah. Posted via cell phone.
Letterboxing is an intriguing "treasure hunt" style outdoor activity. Letterboxers hide small, weatherproof boxes in publicly-accessible places (like parks) and post clues to finding the box online on one of several Web sites. However, clues to finding some of the most highly-sought boxes are passed around by word of mouth. There are about 20,000 letterboxes hidden in North America alone. Individual letterboxes usually contain a log book, an often hand-carved rubber stamp and may contain an ink pad. Finders make an imprint of the letterbox's stamp on their personal log book, and leave an imprint of their personal stamp on the letterbox's logbook .

Lighthouses and Letterboxes

We spent the day looking for lighthouses and letterboxes. It was Chrissie’s idea to start letterboxing and now we’re hooked. Check it out by googling the topic. Addictive. And fun.

2010.10.12 Lighthouses 187

2010.10.12 Lighthouses 222

The top one is Sherwood Point Lighthouse, the next ones are both at the mouth of the shipping canal between Lake Michigan and Sturgeon Bay, known as Canal Station Lighthouse and North Pierhead Light.

2010.10.12 Lighthouses 244

Letterboxing was a lot of fun, a combination of rubber stamping and detective work. We both can’t wait to also do it back at our home bases (and any future trips we take). It’s a little geeky but we like that kind of thing. Sort of like our usual searches for Public Art pieces (of which there was also no shortage on this trip (with sturgeons and lighthouses). Can’t wait to get busy scrappin’ all these good times.

Neon, Sunset and Ghosts

2010.10.12 Lighthouses 302

In the early planning stage of our trip, Chrissie and I considered staying at this place. Fortunately, we decided against it. Tonight we found the neon sign to photograph and quickly realized staying there would have been a BIG mistake for us.

Right down the street we took photos of the sunset over the shipyard.

And also snapped this Halloween tableau.

2010.10.12 Lighthouses 286

All in all it was a great day. We are once again very tired and going to bed. More fun tomorrow.
